Always since I had Inkscape, I would open Inkscape to see this:
"The preferences file C: \Users\Me\AppData\Roaming\inkscape\preferences.xml is not a valid XML document. Inkscape volition run with default settings, and new setting will not be saved."
I would have a choice of "OK" and - Oh yep, I would just accept the choice of "OK", which means I would just have to have it! What actually happens is that what I simply quoted comes upwardly, then I printing "OK". After that, Inkscape opens, but whatever settings I set in the preferences, are not saved. Thus, every fourth dimension I would load upward Inkscape, I would have to set everything to my liking and then when I would shut Inkscape, everything I've fix, is non saved. It'due south really annoying to have to fix everything up again, so I'm asking for help to fix this outcome. I have tried to reinstall it, but that didn't piece of work. I really don't know how to set this trouble. I don't know what it ways for a file to not be a valid XML certificate.
I would really appreciate any assist in solving this problem.

Non certain if this is related to other bug when only deleting the XML file and restart Inkscape will solve the problem - while it generates a fresh ane. Y'all can keep your sometime version past renaming it.

I followed your instructions todelete the file and let Inkscape generate a new ane. Alas, the ready of deleting the prefs file; fixes information technology one time. Simply equally soon equally you switch off and start over again another time; it needs to be done over again.

I am on a windows 10 PC and running he current version of win10 pro.
Depending on how Inkscape was installed (.exe/.msi/null), it's possible win permissions are not allowing the user preference file to be written on close.
I'd ensure the username/appData/roaming/Inkscape/templates directory tin be written to.
Thanks for the info Tyler, however the binder is being written to; every bit ink-scape is saving a new prefs file at that place. But this file is non one containing any altered settings info, just the nuts.

I too accept been having this event since installing 1.one. Doing the above does not seem possible, in fact the app data file was subconscious and located elsewhere, so I moved it, even so no difference. It did say xml doc was opened by unknown app, so I changed it to an xml opening app. still nada. I re-installed, getting very annoying...I just might get back to previous versio at this rate. I am using a laptop with Win 10. would capeesh any further insight, thank you. P.S I am a long fourth dimension user since way back. not the most clever one I am sure, I still observe things to learn lol
@gnu61, any take chances you are installing from the Windows store? There is a bug report that may exist related: https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inbox/-/issues/1526
The preferences file is stored in the aforementioned location for all versions except for the 32-bit PortableApps.com Format (InkscapePortable.exe).
The full path is listed in Inkscape Preferences - System in front of the Reset Preferences button.
